Fenerbahce's defender Bright Osayi-Samuel has spoken out in defense of his actions following a post-match altercation following the clash between Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Osayi-Samuel intervened by punching fans who stormed the pitch and attempted to assault Fenerbahce players after the Turkish Super Lig encounter, which saw Fenerbahce emerge victorious with a 3-2 win, maintaining pressure on league leaders Galatasaray.

Speaking to Bein Sports, Osayi-Samuel stated, "Some people say what I did was not self-defense. If someone comes at you with a knife in his hand, how can this not be self-defense?

“They came to the field from the stands. I only had to defend my team and my friends there. Many of my teammates were coming into the locker room with cuts and bruises. I cannot understand how such events are possible on a football field."

The fullback is currently on international duty with the Super Eagles and will be looking to picking a starting shirt in a friendly against Mali on Tuesday.
