Hughton reveals FA Cup target
Chris Hughton is confident that his Brighton side can get to the final of the FA Cup this season ahead of their replay against West Brom.
The Seagulls boss is aware that the number of top Premier League teams remaining in the competition has dwindled after Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal's demise, while Chelsea or Manchester United will be eliminated in round five as the pair meet at Stamford Bridge.
However, after being held to a goalless draw by the Baggies at the Amex Stadium, a tricky fourth-round replay at Championship side West Brom awaits on Wednesday evening, while a fifth-round clash with Derby is up next for the winners.
I see it opening up for some who are not the favourites though, and that's the great thing about this competition.
Chris Hughton
Brighton have a realistic chance to make the quarter-finals and, while they are just five points clear of the Premier League's relegation places, there is some scope for them to enjoy a run in the cup.
However, Hughton, who is set to give the likes of Alireza Jahanbakhsh and David Button a run-out in the game, has guarded against complacency going to The Hawthorns.
"There are a lot of Premier League sides out of the competition now, so there is an opportunity for teams to progress," Hughton said.
"But you can't go into a game thinking a match will be easy, because as soon as you do, you won't get through to the next round.
"I see it opening up for some who are not the favourites though, and that's the great thing about this competition."
Brighton, who are 33/1 to win the FA Cup, are 6/4 to win on Wednesday, while West Brom are priced at 2/1 and the draw at 90 minutes is 12/5.
