Hodgson welcomes midfield moves
Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has boosted his midfield options with the signings of Everton's James McCarthy and former Cardiff City loanee Victor Camarasa.
Twenty-eight-year-old Republic of Ireland international McCarthy arrives on a permanent basis, having spent the last six seasons at Goodison Park, making 133 appearances in all competitions.
On the international stage McCarthy has won 41 caps for the Irish, while he was an FA Cup winner with Wigan Athletic back in 2013.
Hodgson told his club's official website: "I'm really pleased we've been able to bring James to the club because he's a player I've admired for a very long time.
"He's a player with a vast amount of Premier League experience, given his six and four years playing for Everton and Wigan respectively, and he will be an excellent addition to our midfield."
Meanwhile, Camarasa returns to the Premier League from Real Betis, having impressed for the Bluebirds last season despite their relegation to the Championship.
The 25-year-old Spaniard scored five goals in 32 top-flight appearances for Cardiff and Hodgson is confident that Camarasa will prove to be a valuable addition.
He added: "Víctor is a player we were keen to sign and I'm delighted he's decided to join us. He is a strong and technically gifted midfielder and will be a great addition to the team."
Palace can be backed at 4/1 to be relegated this season, while they are 1/7 to avoid the drop, having finished in 12th place last term.
