Herrera's rift in United 'project'
Ander Herrera elected to leave Manchester United this summer as he wasn't convinced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's vision of his role at the club going forward.
The Spaniard left Old Trafford on a free transfer to join Paris St-Germain, admitting the Red Devils boss simply wasn't able to convince him he was going to be a key piece in the jigsaw.
Herrera was quick to point out there was no falling out with the Norwegian, who made attempts to convince him his future remained in Manchester.
Asked why he left, Herrera told Spanish newspaper Marca: "I do not like looking at the past very much, but there were differences regarding the project and my importance within it.
"I was very happy, I have a lot to thank the club and the fans for it and also Solskjaer. He did a lot for me to stay, but things did not happen, they arrived late, and by then I had already made the decision to play in Paris."
The 29-year-old wasn't in any mood to fuel speculation that friend and international teammate David De Gea might soon join him in the French capital, with PSG once more linked to the Man United shot stopper.
"David is my friend, I have a great relationship with him and, of course, he is one of the best in the world, for me top three. But here there are already two great goalkeepers," he added.
One player he is relishing playing with however is Kylian Mbappe. The French forward has all the tools to emulate the great players of recent times, according to Herrera, though he still has got to prove he deserves to be named amongst their ilk.
"One of the things that I admire in Messi and Cristiano is continuity, reliability year after year. That is very difficult and they are always decisive," he added.
"Mbappe has everything to make it so, but time will tell if he manages to maintain that regularity."
Paris St-Germain are 8/1 to win the Champions League next season, with Manchester City 4/1 and reigning champions Liverpool 7/1.
