Heaton set for Villa switch
Aston Villa boss Dean Smith is set to make Tom Heaton his 11th signing of the summer after agreeing to pay £8million to Burnley for the 33-year-old goalkeeper.
Heaton, who played in the first half of the Clarets' 6-1 pre-season friendly win against Nice at Turf Moor on Tuesday, will have a medical at Villa Park in the next 48 hours.
Smith has already signed the likes of Jota, Tyrone Mings, Douglas Luiz, Trezeguet and Matt Targett since Villa sealed promotion via the Championship play-offs in May.
Nick Pope is set to take over as Burnley's first-choice shot-stopper after agreeing a new four-year deal in May.
Heaton, who is out of contract next summer, has made 200 appearances for the Clarets.
Meanwhile, Burnley boss Sean Dyche remains hopeful that he can make at least one more signing before next Thursday's transfer deadline.
Dyche has made two signings this summer - Stoke City's Erik Pieters and Jay Rodriguez from West Brom - but is believed to be particularly keen to bring in a central midfielder.
He said: "If we can find the quality at the right price then of course. That's standard.
"There are still a few irons in fires, but it's not an easy market. If nothing happened, we've got a balanced-looking squad. If it happens, then we've done it for a reason."
Aston Villa, 9/1 to beat Tottenham in their first game of the campaign on 10th August, are 2/1 to be relegated this season while Burnley are 15/8 to go down.
