Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini has strongly criticised Ademola Lookman for taking a penalty in their UEFA Champions League play-off tie against Club Brugge, describing him as "one of the worst penalty takers" he has ever seen, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The Italian outfit crashed out of the competition, losing 3-1 at home and 5-2 on aggregate, after Club Brugge scored three first-half goals.

Lookman, introduced after the break, scored to give Atalanta hope, but his miss from the spot in the 62nd minute ended any chance of a comeback.

Gasperini was scathing in his assessment of Lookman's decision to take the penalty, highlighting his poor record in training.

"Lookman was not supposed to take that penalty," Gasperini said. "He has a frankly terrible record even in training, he converts very few of them.

"Retegui and De Ketelaere were there, but Lookman in a moment of enthusiasm after scoring decided to take the ball and that was a gesture I did not appreciate at all."
