Asamoah Gyan scored twice to break his mini goal drought to shoot Al Ain to the top of the Arabian Gulf League with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Al Fujairah on Saturday.

The 29-year-old had not scored for his club since returning from the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations where he helped Ghana win silver in Equatorial Guinea.

Al Ain coach Zlatko Dalic had asked the ever demanding fans to be patient with the Black Stars captain as he was working his way back to full fitness since repining the side over a fortnight ago.

Gyan restored confidence in his abilities in grand style by hitting a brace to send Al Ain to the summit of the UAE top flight.

The former Sunderland hitman opened the scoring from the spot on the stroke of halftime.

He returned to score Al Ain’s third with four minutes left to play after Abdulaziz Ismail’s own goal had given the Boss a 2-0 lead after 71 minutes.

Gyan who has been the top scorer of the UAE top flight since arriving on an initial loan deal from Sunderland in 2011 now takes his season’s tally to 11 goals – nine adrift of current leading scorer Mirko Vucinic.
