Arsenal are on the verge of completing a deal to sign Lille winger Nicolas Pepe for £73million, according to the French side's president Gerard Lopez.

The 24-year-old Ivory Coast international, who scored 22 goals in Ligue 1 last term, has opted to join the Gunners despite also being linked with moves to Manchester United and Napoli.

Pepe is set to be Arsenal's record capture, beating the £55million they paid for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January 2018.

Lopez said: "He is the one who made the decision, I think it should be (confirmed) in the next 24 hours. It is 80million euro fixed. If we pushed this deal out a little bit longer, we could have had five or six offers of the same nature.

"In talking with Nicolas and his agents, the discussion centred on a few clubs so we preferred to focus on the projects that interested the player."

Meanwhile, Arsenal are also keen to snap up Celtic full-back Kieran Tierney, although the Scottish champions have already rejected two offers from the Gunners this summer.

Shkodran Mustafi is expected to leave the club before the transfer window shuts next Thursday while Laurent Koscielny refused to travel on a pre-season tour to the United States after his request to have his contract terminated to allow him to join another club was rejected by Arsenal, 6/4 to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season.

Emery's team are 19/20 to beat Newcastle on 11th August and 7/4 to keep a clean sheet against the Magpies.
