Guinea and Liberia meet with U17 continental qualification at stake

Guinea and Liberia will contest the UFOA A U17 third-place play-off on Sunday, 20 September 2026, with the winner securing qualification for the next Africa Cup of Nations U17.

The match will kick off at 16:00 GMT at Stade Leopold Sedar Senghor in Senegal, where the regional tournament is being held. As well as deciding which side finishes third, the game will determine the final team from the UFOA A zone to reach the continental finals.

Both teams had shown promise during the group stage before falling short in their semi-finals and seeing their hopes of winning the tournament end.

Guinea were beaten 3-0 by Senegal, while Liberia lost 2-1 to Gambia in the other semi-final.

The result means the play-off carries greater significance than the bronze medal alone. The winners will join Senegal and Gambia as the three representatives of the UFOA A zone at the next Africa Cup of Nations U17.
