Senegal international midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye says giving his career a boost is the main reason behind him leaving Everton to join Paris Saint-Germain.

The 29-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the French champions, ending a four-year spell in the Premier League - firstly with Aston Villa and then Everton.

I wanted to give a new boost to my club career by joining PSG.

And, having recently featured for his country at the Africa Cup of Nations, Gueye is now looking forward to bedding in in the French capital and getting ready for a campaign which will include Champions League football.

He told his new club's official website: "I'm immensely proud to sign for Paris Saint-Germain.

"After focusing on the AFCON with Senegal, I wanted to give a new boost to my club career by joining PSG, one of the most ambitious projects in Europe.

"I'd like to thank the directors, the coach and his staff for the confidence they have shown in me. I will do everything to justify the faith they have shown in me and to integrate into this talented squad."

Gueye, who started his career in France with Lille, made 99 Premier League appearances during his three seasons with Everton, having spent just one season with Aston Villa.

His lone trophy success to date came in 2011, when he helped Lille claim the Ligue 1 title for just the third time in their history.

PSG can be backed at 10/1 to win the Champions League this season, with Juventus priced at 9/1 and Bayern Munich 14/1.
