Guardiola Writes Off Iheanacho
Manchester City of England youngster, Kelechi Iheanacho might be heading for a torrid time with the club next season, as The Citizens’ new coach, Pep Guardiola is apparently not in synch with the Super Eagles rookie.
Though Iheanacho marked his first senior season as a professional with 14 goals to his name in all competition, making the best of his return to Etihad Stadium after a stint on loan at Columbus Crew of America, he may not have caught the fancy of Guardiola.
It is now left to be seen if the UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner and most valuable player will get the chance to edge beyond his debut scorecard, as reports indicate that Guardiola sees only four of the current squad as genuine first-choice players.
The Mirror says Guardiola has told Man City chiefs that their squad needs a £200million facelift – with as many as EIGHT new starting players required to make the club a major title-winning force.
Iheanacho does not get a mention, in a report that states how it is believed that, among City’s current squad, only Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne and Fernandinho are seen as ideal starters by Guardiola.
City skipper Vincent Kompany is considered a possible fourth, although the injury-prone Belgian’s fitness record means that central defence is a top priority for the incoming boss, who may need a lot of convincing from Iheanacho as well.
