Guardiola still on defender hunt
Pep Guardiola says he would be content to go into the new season with his Manchester City squad as it is but hasn't given up on signing another defender.
The reigning Premier League champions have so far brought in defensive midfielder Rodri for a club-record fee, while they also took up a buy-back clause in Angelino's contract to re-sign him from PSV Eindhoven.
The only piece missing for Guardiola now is a new central defender following the departure of legendary skipper Vincent Kompany at the end of last season.
The Citizens have been strongly linked with a move for Leicester City centre-half Harry Maguire, who is 8/1 to move to the Etihad Stadium this summer.
However, the Foxes' asking price is proving to be an issue, while cross-city rivals Manchester United are also extremely keen on the England international.
Bournemouth's Nathan Ake has been mentioned as a possible alternative for City but there appears to be little movement on City signing either player with less than two weeks to go in the transfer window.
Guardiola already has three centre-backs at his disposal, while Fernandinho can also fill that role and he appears to be in no rush to splash the cash for either Maguire or Ake.
"I like the faces that we have," said Guardiola. "Maybe but the transfer market is so difficult and the team is good enough. Maybe zero, maybe one, maybe one and a half. If we can we will, if we can't we will survive without a new central defender."
Meanwhile, the Spaniard has played down speculation linking City with Dani Alves, a player Guardiola worked with during his time in charge of Barcelona.
The Citizens play their final game of their Far East tour on Saturday when they take on Yokohama. City are 1/3 for the win, with their Japanese opponents 13/2 and the draw 10/3.
