Grassroot tournament: Sports Minister endorse One Nigeria Unity Cup tournament
Minister of Youths and Sports development, Chief Sunday Dare , has thrown his weight behind the One Nigeria Cup project.
Aside support, the Minister also approved a partnership for the initiative while also consenting to the usage of the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja for the national finals to be played on Saturday, 4th February.
Recall that a non- governmental and apolitical group, The One Nigeria Cup Grassroots Coalition initiative recently stated it desire to see the nation remain in unison in spite of her diversity and political allegiances in February 2023 and beyond.
The group had said it would achieve the feat by using football in the grassroot across the six geo-political zones of the country, noting that Nigerians will through the game be reminded of the need for One Nigeria to be the biggest winner of it all.
The One Nigeria Cup tournament kicked off on December 15.
The five -week long chain of activities for the tourney has been spreading across the six geo-political zones and to climax in Lagos on Sunday , 22nd January.
Speaking while playing host to the organisers when he received them, the Minister in commending the organisers also pledged support with accommodation for the winners from each geopolitical zones to play for peace and unity in Abuja next month.
He urged all Nigerians to support the initiative as it is of the benefit interest of the nation’s peaceful coexistence using football.
Meanwhile, the 7th Edition of the National Youth Games (NYG) has been scheduled to hold in Asaba, Delta State between February 8th and 18th as announced by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, under the leadership of Honourable Sunday Dare.
Dare, in a letter to various states has underlined the significance of the forthcoming the 7th Edition of the National Youth Games (NYG) scheduled to hold in Asaba, Delta State between February 8th and 18th: “the NYG has become a beacon of hope for the future of our sports. Its product has been largely responsible for most of the recent successes the nation has witnessed at international sports competitions.”
