Granit Xhaka admits Covid certificate offence as Swiss investigation continues

Sunderland and Switzerland midfielder Granit Xhaka has admitted falsifying a coronavirus vaccination certificate in 2022.

Xhaka has said he is willing to co-operate with law enforcement authorities and is due to be questioned by prosecutors in Lucerne next week.

The midfielder has been excluded from the Switzerland squad and will miss their next four UEFA Nations League matches.

Following the investigation, prosecutors will decide whether to open criminal proceedings against Xhaka. If a case is brought, he could face a substantial fine or up to five years in prison.
