Enugu Rangers extended their lead at the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League to two points following a 1-0 away win against Giwa on Sunday. Godwin Aguda was the match hero, scoring the crucial winning goal in the 15th minute. It was sweet revenge for the Flying Antelopes who lost home and away to Giwa FC last season. The game was however abandoned in the 87th minute. Kano Pillars’ poor run against Rivers United continued as they lost 1-0 to the hosts in Port Harcourt. The Sai Masu Gida have now lost nine of their last 10 away games against Rivers United. Bernard Ovoke scored the winner in the 77th minute. His first goal for the Pride of Rivers since his move from Bayelsa United and first in the NPFL since September 2015. The game was marred by a bad looking injury sustained by Pillars captain Gambo Mohammed who was replaced on 15 minutes by Joel Djondang. Sunshine Stars continued their resurgence under Solomon Ogbeide, dispatching El-Kanemi Warriors 3-0 in Akure. Okiki Afolabi opened scoring from the spot for the Owena Waves in the 15th minute. It was his fifth goal of the campaign for his side. Isiaka Oladuntoye doubled the lead from a corner kick four minutes after the break, with Dayo Ojo converting another penalty kick in stoppage time to make it three. In Nnewi, Okereke Maduabuchi scored the winner in the 55th minute as FC Ifeanyiubah recorded a slim 1-0 victory against Warri Wolves. Niger Tornadoes also beat Ikorodu United 2-0 at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja with Ismaila Gata grabbing a brace. It was the first time in eight games that Tornadoes did not concede a goal. At the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi, Lobi Stars beat Akwa United 1-0.
