Cagliari are one step closer to signing Diego Godin with reports out of Italy suggesting the Uruguayan has freed himself from his Inter contract.

The 34-year-old had two years remaining on his Nerazzurri contract worth €5.5 million a season, though terms over his severance package have yet to be revealed.

Sky Sport Italia reports Godin will now be able to complete a free transfer to Cagliari, where he will join compatriots Christian Oliva, Nahitan Nandez and Gaston Pereiro.

The move means Inter can now finalize their move for Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal.

The Chilean remains a Blaugrana player for the time being, but fresh talks are set to take place as early as Saturday.
