Ryan Giggs has called on his Wales side to improve dramatically on Saturday's 2-1 Euro 2020 qualifier defeat in Croatia when they face Hungary on Tuesday.

The Welsh boss was disappointed with the overall performance from his players as a James Lawrence own goal and Ivan Perisic strike put last year's World Cup finalists 2-0 ahead in Osijek.

David Brooks pulled a late goal back, but it was not enough to prevent a first defeat in Group E as the players must now try and respond against Hungary in Budapest.

Now we prepare for Tuesday. Hungary are a hard-working, physical team, but we will need to play a lot better to get anything out of it.

Ryan Giggs

"We showed them far too much respect, we weren't aggressive enough early on and we made some stupid mistakes and got punished," Giggs said.

"So there are a lot of negatives.

"When you end the game like that and have the chances we had, you've got to be disappointed and it's definitely one that got away.

"I said to the players, we've missed a chance, especially with the way we ended the game, we ended so strong. When it gets stretched, Croatia had chances on the break, but you expect that.

"We looked the fitter side at the end. We looked like the ones pushing and it looked like Croatia were hanging on.

He added: "Now we prepare for Tuesday. Hungary are a hard-working, physical team, but we will need to play a lot better to get anything out of it."

Wales, who are 9/2 to win Group E, can be backed at 13/8 to win in Hungary, while the hosts are priced at 9/5 and the draw is 21/10.
