Ghanaian youth international defensive midfielder Gideon Jung has signed a three-season-contract extension at German Bundesliga side Hamburg SV, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.  

The 20-year-old Kumasi-born has put pen to paper  and signed the deal to keep him at the club until June 2018.

Hamburg SV CEO Dietmar Beiersdorf expressed his confidence about the abilities Jung's talent: "He has shown in the games for our U23 and also in its units in the professional training that much potential in that. We are convinced that he still has great potential to develop further."

Jung joined Hamburg last season from German third-tier side Rot-Weiß Oberhausen and has impressed for the U23 and trained on a couple of times with the Hamburg first team squad.

Jung is versatile enough to play in both central defensive and defensive midfield roles.

"When I came to Hamburg in the summer, it was a great new challenge for me. I am glad that I can continue to develop in the coming years me here. I want to confirm my services at the U23 and hope, of course, at some point to come times in the Bundesliga for use," he said.

Jung also talked about his Ghanaian background in an interview with the Hamburg SV media.

"My parents are from Ghana and live in a town called Kumasi there," he revealed.
