Ghanaian youth international midfielder Thomas Boakye has revealed why he did not celebrate his goal against Östersunds FK in the Swedish second-tier on Saturday.

It was the 22-year-old's 55th minute strike that did the magic for Varbergs as they clinched a narrow 1-0 win over second-placed Östersunds FK in the Supperettan.

The former Right to Dream Academy graduate has revealed scoring against Östersunds FK was so emotional for him after spending three seasons with them.

"It was emotional day for me, I feel very happy we won yesterday. I respect my formal club ÖFK, I didn't celebrate when I scored but credit to all my team mates for their determination, hard work during the game," he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

Before the start of the season, Boakye left Östersunds FK after a three-season spell and joined Varbergs in search of a new adventure and promotion to the Swedish top-tier division.

He has started five games for Varbergs since the start of the season.
