Ghanaian striker Mohammed Anas named best striker Maritzburg United awards
Ghanaian striker Mohammed Anas annual was named the best striker for South African side Maritzburg United at the annual awards ceremony in Pietermaritzburg's City Hall last night.
Anas, the bulky attacker, won the Golden Boot with seven goals in all competitions.
Bafana Bafana defender Kwanda Mngonyama, who was mentored by Ghanaian defender John Paintsil, was the big winner at Maritzburg United awards night.
Mngonyama scooped the player of the season and players' player accolades for the Team of Choice.
The 21-year-old is on loan at United from Mamelodi Sundowns, and will push for first team action when he returns to Chloorkop in the off-season, especially with Downs bidding farewell to Dutch captain Alje Schut.
Mngonyama, who is currently preparing with Bafana for the Cosafa Cup, grew in stature when he teamed up with John Pantsil at the back following Mohammed Awal's sale to Saudia side Al-Shabab FC in January.
Deolin Mekoa claimed the top rookie prize.
Long-serving goalkeeper Shu-Aib Walters picked up the Chairman's Award, as did Zola Luthuli.
