Ghana thump Liberia to reach second round of CAF U23 Championship qualifiers
Ghana advanced in the qualifiers to the 2015 CAF U23 Championship by eliminating Liberia on Saturday by completing a double.
The Black Meteors beat the Young Lone Star 5-1 at the Tamale Sports Stadium to seal a 7-1 aggregate win.
Coach Malik Jabir’s side took a two-goal lead by the 25th minute mark with goals from Richard Gadze and defender Baba Mensah.
But the visitors, who were playing the return of their first qualifying round in Ghana due to the Ebola virus which has ravaged their country, pulled one back on the half-hour mark.
Before the break, Asante Kotoko striker Dauda Mohammed restored Ghana’s 2-0 lead with a strike on 40 minutes.
Five minutes after the break, Mohammed grabbed a personal second and Tamimu Montari.
Ghana will next play Congo this month in the second qualifying round.
