Ghana youth star Godfred Donsah scored his first Serie A goal on Sunday as his relegation threatened side Cagliari posted a 2-1 win over fellow strugglers Cesena.

The 18-year-old was handed a starting role by new coach Gianfranco Zola and lasted the entire duration.

Donsah doubled Cagliari’s lead on 27 minutes when he went on a rapid run from midfield, completing a give-and-go with Joao Pedro to eventually blast the right-foot finish past Nicola Leali.

He was making his ninth appearance for the side he joined last summer from fellow Serie A contenders Hellas Verona.

Before his goal Joao Pedro took a spot-kick and it was parried by Leali, but the Brazilian got on the rebound to tap in in the 11th minute.

Cesena gave themselves a fighting chance right at the death, as Carlos Carbonero crossed for Franco Brienza to tap in at the back post.
