Ghana's national team retained their place among the top three Africa national teams with the Black Stars closing in on the second position in Africa, the latest FIFA rankings have revealed.

Ghana remained in 26th position in the global ranking released on Thursday for the month of May which means the Black Stars also stayed the third best national team on the continent.

Ivory Coast leads the African pack at the 23rd position in the global ranking while Algeria also stay in second place in 27th position.

Due to the lack of games, there hasn’t been much movement in this month’s rankings, with only a handful of nations making any sort of movement at all.

Ghana are still on 833 points with the results of only three matches taken into account.

With the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers set to start next month, a blistering showing by the Black Stars will help them challenge the top two sides Algeria and Ivory Coast if they failed to make an impact.

Tunisia dropped one (now 31st) but stayed fourth in Africa.

Bafana Bafana have moved up one place in this month’s FIFA rankings, leapfrogging Zambia into 59th place in the world and 15th in the African continent.

The best mover this month was Suriname who leaped 14 places up to 155th, while Bafana’s AFCON qualifier opponent, Mauritania, was the worst mover, dropping nine places to 129th.

Meanwhile, there has been no movement in the world’s top 15 at all, with Germany, Argentina and Belgium remaining the top three ranked nations in the game.
