Ghana President Mahama hails Black Stars for AFCON heroics in national address
Ghana President John Dramani Mahama has hailed the Black Stars for their showing at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations insisting their resolve to excel after the fiasco of the 2014 World Cup is commendable.
The country's leader paid a glowing tribute to senior national team for their showing at the tournament in Equatorial Guinea in his State of the Nations address to the parliament on Thursday.
The Black Stars unexpectedly finished second in Africa's flagship football competition this month after losing to Ivory Coast through a penalty shoot-out even though they were rated as underdogs at the start of the competition.
Their style of play the the manner in which they fought to steer the country to the final looks to have delighted the President who deemed it fit to include the achievement in the most important annual address to Ghanaians.
"I wish to congratulate the Black Stars for their performance at Afcon 2015," His Excellency President John Dramani said in the State of the Nations address on Thursday.

While some have criticized the way the Black Stars have been hailed for finishing second at the tournament, President Mahama says the team deserves praise for the way they overcame difficulties in Brazil to finish second at the AFCON.
"The Black Stars gathered themselves together, rose from the ashes of Brazil 2014 and proved themselves at AFCON 2015 in Equatorial Guinea," President Mahama said.
