Liberty professionals pick the club of the week award for Week 8 of the First Capital Plus Bank Ghana premier league after defeating Berekum Chelsea who were placed third going into the game at the Dansoman park with Kennedy Ashia scoring the solitary goal of the game.

There were eight matches played this weekend and Sportsworldghana.com’s Gariba Raubillooks at the teams that enjoyed upper-echelon placements in this week’s rankings.

Ashantigold won 3-2 over New Edubiase United at the Obuasi Len Clay stadium with the latter playing as the home team, Heart of Lions recorded a gritty win over Herbet Addo’s Hearts of Oak in Kpando and Aduana stars also were 1-0 winners against All stars but it is George Lamptey’s side that enjoys the most stratospheric ranking with 325 ranking points thanks to their win over a much stronger opponent, Berekum Chelsea, whose opposition strength was 1.625 which was the highest for any of the seven teams that lost on match-day 8.

This was an indication that Liberty defeated the strongest opponent available on match-day eight and that explains their position at the summit of the rankings.

Ashantigold emerged second with 262.5 ranking points as the defeated New Edubiase in a closely contested game but New edubiase’s opposition strength before the game was 0.875(not that strong) as they were placed 7th on the GPL league log after Day 7.

Hasaacas are ranked third performed side with 225 points for their win over Top-four side Inter Allies.

Powerhouse Asante Kotoko has never won the club of the week award since the start of the new season something that confirms their difficult start to the defence of their title that they have monopolized for the past three seasons but the most successful Ghanaian club will take consolation when they look down the ladder of the rankings as their cosmic nemesis Hearts of Oak are even in a deeper mess.

Truth be told, for Hearts of Oak, the only good thing about them this season is that they won arguably the biggest fixture in the first round of the 2014/15 premier league season which happened on Day 6 at the Kumasi stadium at the expense of sworn rivals Asante Kotoko. From that great win the phobians have been ordinary if not poor and this weekly rankings have proven to be an essential and veritable tool to measure the weekly performance of the premier league sides.

Now away from the rankings. On the premier league table proper, after eight mathces Asantigold atop with 21 points.Aduana stars comes second with 16 points.Heart of Lions are placed third with 14 points and Hasaacas are back in the Top four with 14 points as weel at the 4th place. Defending champions Kotoko are at the 12th position and Hearts of Oak are in the relegation mire with 8 points just above 16th placed BA United.
