Ghana footballers reveal plan to help victims of Accra floods disaster that killed 200
Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) have revealed plans by the national team players to help victims of the floods in Accra that killed more than 200 people.
The GFA revealed on Sunday morning that players of the national team are planning to visit the scene of the place where most people lost their lives during the Accra disaster last week.
The plan has also been corroborated by the Black Stars captain who says they are also planning to donate some amount of money to help the victims of the disaster.
More than 200 people died in Accra on when torrential rainfall hit Ghana's capital with most of the dead sheltering at a fuel station which exploded during the rains and caught fire.
Gyan says the Black Stars players were devastated when news of the disaster broke out, sending his messages of condolences to the family of the bereaved.
The leader of the national team says they are planning the right way of helping the victims even though the exact nature of it is not yet clear.
“We were all sad when we heard the sad incident. Nobody expected that to happen. On behalf of the Black stars players and my own behalf, we express our sympathy to the families who have lost their relatives in this sad incident," Gyan said.
“We have to all help and not only the Black Stars players but all Ghanaians must come together to help.
"Honestly we have not met before but it is something we have planned to do so when I meet the players I will bring on board this issue and we know how we can also help."
Ghana FA spokesman Ibrahim Sannie also revealed on Happy FM that the plans for helping the disaster victims by the Black Stars players has been discussed.
"The players have held preliminary talks with officials on how to help the victims of the Accra floods. The players want to visit the site to see for themselves and they are also thinking of a package to be given to the families and victims of this unfortunate incident."
The plan will see the Black Stars visit the GOIL filling station on Tuesday where it is expected that their package for the victims will be announced.
The Black players are currently training for Monday's friendly against Togo before taking on Mauritius next week SUnday.
