Ghana disastrous showing led to the Black Stars free fall in the FIFA rankings
Ghana paid the consequences of a washed-out campaign at the just ended COSAFA Cup in South Africa and after slipping eight places down to 34th position in the latest FIFA ranking.
Ghana have dropped from 26th to 34th spot for the Monday on May which was released on Wednesday.
The Black Stars suffered two defeats to Madagascar and Zambia in the quarter-final and the plate semi-finals resecpectively.
Ghana have also been affected on the Caf ranking as they are now fourth behind leaders Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire and Tunisia.
Algeria and Cote d’Ivoire maintain the first and second positions in Africa but dropped a place down to 21st and 24th respectively in the world ranking.
Senegal (36th), Cape Verde (38), Nigeria (43), Guinea (45), Congo (47) and Cameroon (49) complete the continent's top ten in that order.
The current edition of the ranking shows two changes in the top ten, with Belgium overtaking Argentina to move into second place, their highest ever position since the inception of the world football ranking.
As none of the teams in the top 20 played a match last month, all movements in terms of points and positions are down to a devaluation of past results.
A total of 44 matches were played in May, bringing the number of international “A” matches played so far in 2015 to 264.
