Ghana defender Francis Dickoh crowned Danish champion with Midtjylland, makes history with club's first title
Ghana international defender Francis Dickoh has won the Danish Superliga title with FC Midtjylland for the first time in the club's history after their game last night.
The 32-year-old central defender sat on the bench while Midtjylland won the title after drawing their game giving them the Super League title with three games to spare.
Dickoh took to Twitter to express his joy after winning the title: "Champions! Danish Champions 2014/2015! A privilege to be a small part of this amazing club."
Midtjylland claimed the title after holding Vestsjælland to a 0-0 stalemate at the Harboe Arena Slagelse on Thursday night.
The draw meant they have now opened a 10-point gap between them and second-placed FC Copenhagen who have three games to wrap up their season.
The result moves Midtjylland ten points clear of Copenhagen with three matches left to play, ensuring they can at last taste glory having twice previously finished as runners-up in the Superliga - in both 2007 and 2008.
The point is also of some use to the hosts, although they still have it all to do as they sit second bottom of the table, five points adrift of safety.
Copenhagen, who have Ghana versatile defender Daniel Amartey, would still be in short of a point if they win all remaining three games while Midtjylland lose all their last two games.
Dickoh, 32, and capped 13 times by Ghana, played just nine (9) games in Midtjylland's title winning campaign.
He joined Midtjylland two seasons ago after leaving Belgian side Cercle Brugge.
Formed in 1999 by a merger between Ikast fS and Herning Fremad, Midtjylland are now slated for a UEFA Champions League debut in the second qualifying round after their first major trophy.
