Ghana have cancelled today's their final pre-Africa Cup of Nations friendly warm up match against German top-flight side Freiburg due to injury concerns.

The scheduled friendly was meant to cap their ten-day stay in Seville hours before they depart for the tournament in Equatorial Guinea.

But head coach Avram Grant has decided to call off the friendly in the wake of the growing knocks suffered by players in training.

The Ghana FA's official website reports that: "The precautionary decision comes in the wake of the knock suffered by captain Asamoah Gyan during training.

"Even though Gyan continued to train, coach Grant is not keen on risking his players with Africa's flagship tournament looming.

"With some few days before the start of the competition in Equatorial Guinea, Grant has decided to protect his players from likely injuries."

Ghana beat Portuguese second-tier side Olhanense 3-1 and also drew 1-1 with Dutch Eredivise side SC Cambuur last week.

The Black Stars will train on Wednesday morning before departing to Equatorial Guinea later in the afternoon and expected to arrive in the capital Malabo on Wednesday night before travelling to their team base of Mongomo.

Ghana's opener will be against tournament favourities Senegal on 19 Monday.
