Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan wants to remain fit in order to prolong his football career.

The Al Ain ace is considered to be in the twilight of his career having turned 29 last November.

Gyan has played for Ghana at three World Cup finals and in four editions of the Africa Cup of Nations.

The former Sunderland hitman has also been a massive success since moving to the UAE in 2011 where he has emerged top scorer of the Arabian Gulf League for three successive seasons.

He also emerged the Best Foreign Player in Asia following his exploits in the AFC Champions League with Al Ain where he was the top scorer of the competition with 12 goals.

Many believe the Gyan has just one more World Cup to play for Ghana as he nears retirement.

But the prolific striker believes he can continue playing beyond this point once he remains healthy.

“When there are no injuries in your career I think you can play even until 40,” he told AsamoahGyan3.com.

“I think it is one of the important things we need to do and one of the important things in our career.

“People say we’ve got short careers, we’ve got short careers because of injuries.

“When you get injuries, then it is a big problem.”

Gyan is currently with the Black Stars team in Spain preparing or the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations – his fifth AFCON finals with Ghana.
