Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan is likely to be in the country this week for the WBA International Lightweight championship contest being staged by his boxing syndicate.

The 29-year-old has put in a request at his UAE club Al Ain to fly into Accra on Friday for the boxing bout which sees Emmanuel Tagoe come up against Joebert Reyes in the main event.

Gyan’s Baby Jet Promotions has been instrumental in the development of boxing in Ghana through its staging of exciting bouts in recent years.

The Black Stars captain has been an often patron at bouts organized by his boxing syndicate and will again want to be on hand when his lead boxer Tagoe takes on the Filipino.

“The captain Asamoah Gyan has promised to be here with us,” Baby Jet Promotions Chief Executive Officer Samuel Anim Addo revealed at a press conference on Tuesday.

“Unless something beyoung our means happen, maybe one Sheikh saying he cannot travel to Ghana, he will be here with us.

“He is expected to arrive here on Thursday before the fight on Friday.”

Gyan is likely to get his travel request granted with Al Ain already securing the Arabian Gulf League title.

The striker traveled with the side to Riyadh for their Asian Champions League match against Al Shabab on Wednesday.
