Genesio highlights Harit and Aguerd as positives for struggling Marseille

Olympique de Marseille head coach Bruno Genesio says Amine Harit and Nayef Aguerd have given him encouragement despite Sunday’s defeat by PSG at the Velodrome.

The result came during a difficult start to the Ligue 1 campaign for Marseille, who are 17th in the table. However, Genesio believes the performances of his two Moroccan players have stood out amid the team’s wider problems.

“Amine has made a good start to the season. He is important to the team because of his tactical understanding, whether he plays out wide or behind the striker,” Genesio said.

He also praised the progress made by defender Aguerd, who required a carefully managed recovery before returning to full fitness.

“With Nayef, we took our time. The medical and performance staff had to be very precise to get him back on his feet. He is making clear progress,” added Genesio.

“He is not far from his best level any more, and that is good news for us.”

Genesio nevertheless believes Harit still has another step to take. The midfielder must contribute more directly in attack if he is to continue developing, according to his manager.

“Amine now has to be a little more decisive if he wants to take another step forward,” Genesio said.
