Galatasaray have left out Victor Osimhen from their squad for tonight’s Turkish Cup encounter against Alanyaspor, with the club confirming the striker is observing “active rest”, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

In a statement published on the club’s official website, the Yellow and Reds explained that several key players are undergoing special training as part of a recovery programme.

“U?urcan Çak?r, Davinson Sanchez, Abdülkerim Bardakc?, Victor Osimhen, and Mario Lemina, who are undergoing special training for active rest, as well as Roland Sallai, Yunus Akgün, and Mauro Icardi, who have minor aches and are being left out of the squad, are not included in the team for the Corendon Alanyaspor match in the Ziraat Türkiye Cup,” the statement read.

Osimhen had only recently starred against the same opposition in a Turkish Super Lig fixture last weekend, registering one goal and an assist in a 3–1 victory.

Galatasaray is currently navigating a demanding schedule that will see them play six matches in 19 days, including a two-legged UEFA Champions League tie against Liverpool.

The Nigerian international is, however, expected to return to action when Galatasaray face Be?ikta? in the Istanbul derby this weekend.

The 27-year-old has been in fine form this season, tallying 17 goals and six assists in 25 appearances across all competitions for the Turkish champions.
