Leicester City have parted company with Claude Puel in the wake of Saturday's 4-1 defeat to Crystal Palace - the Foxes' fourth home loss in a row.

The 57-year-old Frenchman had been in charge of the club for 16 months and guided them to ninth place in the Premier League last season.

They are 12th in the table this term after losing five of their last six league games while they were knocked out of the FA Cup by League Two side Newport County last month.

Puel's quiet and measured manner failed to win the Leicester fans over, as had also been the case at Southampton earlier in his career.

Since sacking Claudio Ranieri almost exactly two years ago, Craig Shakespeare and now Puel have spent time in charge of the 2015/16 Premier League champions.

There has been some dissension in the Leicester camp this term with Jamie Vardy being quoted as saying Puel's tactics did not suit his style of play while Kasper Schmeichel also made some disparaging comments about the ex-Lyon boss.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Leicester City Football Club has today (Sunday) parted company with Claude Puel, who leaves his position as first-team manager with immediate effect.

"The club would like to thank Claude for his efforts in leading the team during his 16 months in the role and wish him well in his future career.

"First-team coaches Mike Stowell and Adam Sadler, supported by the club's established backroom staff, will assume responsibility for the senior squad while the club begins the process of appointing a new manager."

Leicester can be backed at 5/6 to beat Brighton on Tuesday while they are available at 5/4 to keep a clean sheet against the Seagulls.
