Former Falcons coach Izilein Greatful To Dalung
Former Super Falcons Coach, Godwin Izilein was almost prostrating when he told Sunday Vanguard Sports how grateful he was to Youth and Sports Development minister, Barrister Solomon Dalung who has directed the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF to pay him his allowances which have been held up since 2004.
According to Izilein, “I can’t thank the minister enough for directing the NFF to pay me the allowances I was supposed to get for leading the Super Falcons to victory in the 2004 African Women Championship in South Africa. I thought I would never get the money again so, I am very grateful to him and all others who have been making a case for me all these years.”
He has however, expressed fears that the money may not be paid so soon as his protest letter on which the minister minuted on directing the NFF to pay him has not been located after one of the NFF secretaries confirmed that the federation was truly owing the coach.
“I am begging them to locate the letter and pay me my money as I have suffered so much since 2004 after serving the country meritoriously,” Izilein pleaded, adding that all efforts to reach the NFF officials have proved abortive as “suddenly their telephones are no longer going through.” It could be recalled that the coaching crew of the Falcons were denied their allowances for allegedly instigating the players to protest the non-payment of their allowances and bonuses.
The players were more embarrassing as they embarked on protest, carrying Biafra flags. Coach Izilein had said then that he made efforts to plead with the players not to protest as their money would be eventually paid, stressing that the players’ protest and the waving of the Biafra flag done to embarrass the government of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo then was the handiwork of a former Super Eagles player based in South Africa.
