Flamingos Beat Generation Next Queens 3-0 in Final WAFU B Preparations
Nigeria’s Flamingos continued their build-up to the 2026 WAFU B U-17 Girls Championship with another convincing result, defeating Generation Next Queens 3-0 in an 80-minute training match, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The game offered the Nigeria U-17 women’s team another chance to sharpen their tactics, improve their match fitness and assess their readiness ahead of their trip to Côte d’Ivoire.
The Flamingos needed just six minutes to take the lead after Blessing Ibrahim turned the ball into her own net.
Nigeria continued to dominate proceedings and were rewarded with a second goal in the 14th minute, when Mary Dunstan found the back of the net.
The national team carried their two-goal advantage into the break before adding a third shortly after the restart.
Gbemisola Jaiye inadvertently put the ball into her own net in the 49th minute to complete the scoring and hand the Flamingos a comfortable 3-0 advantage.
Nigeria controlled the remainder of the encounter and saw out the match without conceding, recording another encouraging result ahead of their competitive opener.
The victory comes days after the Flamingos demolished Diamond Stars Sporting Queens 11-0 in another preparatory fixture. Dunstan scored a hat-trick in that encounter, while Harmony Chidi found the net four times.
The Flamingos will now turn their attention to the 2026 WAFU B U-17 Girls Championship in Côte d’Ivoire, where they have been placed in Group B alongside Ghana, Togo and Niger Republic.
Nigeria will begin their campaign against arch-rivals Ghana on Wednesday, September 16, at the CKB Stadium. The tournament runs from September 15 to 28 and also serves as the regional qualifying route for the 2027 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
The meeting with Ghana will provide an immediate test for Nigeria, with the two nations having developed a fierce rivalry at youth level.
Ghana defeated Nigeria on penalties following a 2-2 draw in the final of the inaugural WAFU B U-17 Girls Championship, giving the Flamingos an added incentive ahead of their latest encounter.
Nigeria will also have the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco later this year to look forward to, making the WAFU B tournament an important part of their preparations for a demanding schedule.
With Ghana awaiting them in their opening fixture, the Flamingos will hope their recent run of impressive friendly results provides the momentum needed for a strong start in Côte d’Ivoire.
