Two-time A-League championship winner Nick Fitzgerald has signed for Newcastle Jets on a two-year deal.

The winger, who won titles with Central Coast and Brisbane Roar, has joined after leaving Western Sydney Wanderers.

He has a lot to offer in the final third and we're looking forward to seeing just what Nick can do here in Newcastle.

Ernie Merrick

The Jets are his sixth A-League club and he's won silverware with three of them so far, having helped Melbourne City win the FFA Cup in 2016.

The 27-year-old has played for Australia at both U-20 and U-23 levels, and Newcastle coach Ernie Merrick says he is a solid addition to his team.

"Nick has been playing in the league for almost 10 years and he'll bring a lot of experience to our squad," added the coach.

"He has a lot to offer in the final third and we're looking forward to seeing just what Nick can do here in Newcastle.

"We've got plenty of options in that final third now, and I think the competition for spots will only drive the group on to find that next level."

Fitzgerald, who has made 168 A-League appearances overall, will link up with the Jets in time for the start of pre-season training on 1st July.

He said he was delighted to have the chance to play for the club, adding: "Ernie [Merrick] is well-known for the attacking style of football he likes to play and I'm confident that'll only complement the way I play."

Fitzgerald joins former Central Coast defender Matthew Millar in joining during the off-season, with Merrick still needing to stock up to replace the group who departed at the end of last term.

Seven players have left, including Irish striker Roy O'Donovan, Brazilian Jair and Venezuelan midfielder Ronald Vargas.

Newcastle Jets are 14/1 to win the 2020 Grand Final.

Meanwhile, Australia are 7/5 to win their next game at the Women's World Cup against Norway, who are 7/4 with the draw 5/2.
