FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup: Benin face Argentina as decisive group matches begin
The second round of group matches at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Poland 2026 begins on Tuesday, 8 September, with Benin taking on Argentina and four fixtures set to have a major impact on the race to reach the last 16.
Benin will meet an Argentina side under pressure after the South Americans lost their opening match to the hosts. Benin, meanwhile, impressed in their first game by securing a sensational 2-2 draw against Mexico, leaving them with a valuable opportunity to strengthen their position in Group A.
The other Group A fixture will see Poland attempt to claim a second successive victory in front of their home supporters in Katowice. Their opponents, Mexico, will be looking to respond after being held by Benin and keep their qualification hopes firmly on track.
There is also a significant contest in Group B, where Brazil face Canada. Both teams are among the established names in the competition, and the match could prove crucial as the group standings begin to take shape.
Brazil made an impressive start by beating Tanzania 4-1 in their opening fixture. Another victory would allow the Brazilian team to secure their place in the next round, while Canada will aim to build on the point they earned against England.
England will play Tanzania later in the day, knowing they need to win to remain fully involved in the battle for one of the top two positions in Group B. Their opening match against Canada ended with the Canadians taking a point, increasing the importance of Tuesday’s meeting.
The four matches represent an important turning point in the early stages of the tournament. With qualification places beginning to come into sharper focus, every result and detail could prove decisive before the final group games.
