Ferdinand hangs up boots
Former England international Rio Ferdinand has called time on his playing career following 18 years as a professional.
The 36-year-old started his career at West Ham, before going on to play for Leeds United and Manchester United, followed by a spell at QPR.
Ferdinand was unable to help the R's avoid the drop from the Premier League this season, having struggled with injury towards the end of the campaign.
The Three Lions centre-back has now decided to call time on football and has spoken of the highlights in his career.
He said in a statement: "As a 12-year-old boy, kicking around a football on the Friary Estate in Peckham, I never dreamt that I would play for my boyhood club West Ham, captain Leeds United, win the Champions League with Manchester United, or re-join my first manager Harry Redknapp at Queens Park Rangers.
"I will always regard the 81 times that I played for England, with immense pride. These are all treasured memories that will last a lifetime."
Ferdinand's former team Manchester United are 5000/1 to win the Premier League next season, while Chelsea are 5000/1 to retain the English crown.
