Nigerian All Stars comprising of former Super Eagles players on Saturday defeated their Ghana counterparts 3-1 in a novelty match played at Eagle Club in Lagos to celebrate the country’s 56th independence anniversary.

The match which also featured immediate past Lagos State Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, former Super Eagles midfielder Friday Elaho, Victor Agali, Godwin Okpara, Gbenga Okunnowo and host of others was a good forum for the ex-footballers to reunite with their colleagues from Ghana.

Earlier when Ghana celebrated their independence, the Nigerian All Stars were in Ghana for a novelty match, unfortunately they were defeated 2-0 on that occasion. Saturday’s game was however a good opportunity for the former players to revenge the defeat.

Speaking after the match, President of the All Stars Kingsley Anosike said after the match that it was a good reunion for the players while thanking their Ghana counterparts for honouring the call.

“I want to thank our Ghanaian counterparts for honouring our call because it is not easy coming all the way from Ghana. We are also happy that we won this match to celebrate our Independence. The main objective of this event is to reunion with our colleagues who have left football long ago. We are all happy that we are alive to see another independence celebration”, he said
