Falconets vs Senegal U20 World Cup Qualifier Moved to Abeokuta
The first leg of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup third-round qualifying fixture between Nigeria’s Falconets and Senegal has been moved from Ibadan to Abeokuta, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The match, scheduled for Saturday, 7 February 2026, will now take place at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta, Ogun State, instead of the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
Confirming the development, NFF Director of Competitions, Ruth David, explained that the change of venue was necessitated by the poor and deteriorating condition of the playing surface at the Lekan Salami Stadium, which had earlier received approval from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The Ibadan venue previously hosted the Falconets’ second-round, second-leg encounter against Rwanda in September 2025, but recent assessments raised concerns over its suitability for another high-profile international fixture.
Following the decision, the Falconets—two-time FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup silver medallists—are expected to relocate from Ibadan to Abeokuta in the coming days to properly acclimatise to the playing surface at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex ahead of the crucial tie.
Nigeria booked a place in the third round after recording an emphatic 5–0 aggregate victory over Rwanda in the second round of the African qualifying series.
The winner of the Nigeria–Senegal tie will advance to the final round of the qualifiers, where they will face either Guinea-Bissau or Malawi for a place at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, scheduled to take place in Poland from 5 to 27 September 2026.
