Falconets Duo Join Golden Boot Race After 10-1 Rout
Nigeria’s Falconets have produced two new contenders for the Golden Boot at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after Winner Onajite David and Ramotalahi Kareem each took their tournament tallies to three goals in an emphatic 10-1 victory over New Caledonia, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The Nigerian duo have both scored three times during the group stage and now find themselves among the leading scorers as the competition moves into the knockout rounds.
Argentina’s Annika Paz currently sits at the top of the scoring chart with five goals.
Six players are one goal behind her on four, including China PR’s Huang Jiaxin, England’s Rachel Maltby, North Korea’s Choe Yon-a, as well as Spain’s Pau Comendador and Celia Segura.
David and Kareem are part of a larger group of players who have three goals each.
They are joined by Romaine Gandonou of Benin, Canada’s Annabelle Chukwu, France’s Justine Rouquet, Poland’s Zuzanna Grzywi?ska, Spain’s Marísa García and United States duo Alex Buck and Kennedy Fuller.
The tournament has already produced an impressive number of goals, with 149 scored across 36 matches following the completion of Matchday 3.
That represents an average of 4.14 goals per game, underlining the attacking quality on display at the tournament.
Nigeria’s progression to the knockout stage gives David and Kareem more opportunities to add to their respective tallies and close the gap on the players currently ahead of them.
Following their impressive group-stage performances, both Nigerian forwards will be hoping to continue their scoring form when the Falconets enter the decisive stage of their World Cup campaign.
With Nigeria still chasing success on the global stage, the goals of David and Kareem could prove crucial to the team’s hopes of going deep into the tournament.
