Ex-Tottenham keeper signs for City
Keeper Tom Glover was handed a spot on the bench for Melbourne City just hours after signing for the club.
The Australia U23 international joined on a two-year deal just in time to be included in the squad for the 3-0 friendly win over Bentleigh Greens.
He was on the bench as Dean Bouzanis' understudy as City stepped up their preparations for the new A-League season at Kingston Heath Soccer Complex.
Glover signed on a week after City agreed a mutual contract termination with keeper Mark Birighitti.
Bouzanis is likely to be coach Erick Mombaerts' first-choice in the new season but Glover is not lacking experience despite only being 21.
The Sydney-born stopper moved to London in 2014 to join Tottenham Hotspur where he progressed through the youth system to play in the Under-21 team.
He spent a season on loan back in Australia with Central Coast in 2017-18 where he made four appearances, and earlier this year joined Norwegian side Helsingborg on loan.
City director of football Michael Petrillo said: "Tom is one of the brightest young Australian goalkeeping talents there is. We're looking forward to working with him to help him continue his impressive development and challenge for game time this season."
In their clash with Bentleigh Greens, City took until just before half-time to break the deadlock via Craig Noone's chip.
Four minutes into the second half Adrian Luna netted his first goal in City blue, finishing from close range.
Winger Moudi Najjar was then fouled inside the area to win a penalty on 56 minutes but his spot-kick hit the post.
With 16 minutes left, Ramy Najjarine added a third after Luna played him in one-on-one with the keeper.
Melbourne City are 5/1 to win the A-League Grand Final.
