Ex-Hearts of Oak star Cobbinah laments lack of facilities for players in the local leagues
Former Hearts of Oak winger Winful Cobbinah believes players plying their trade in the Ghana top-flight league will excel if they have excellent training facilities.
The talented player, who currently plays for Saudi Arabian second-tier side Al-Riyadh Sporting Club, says the availability of good quality training facilities is the reason why Ghanaian players excel when they go abroad.
Cobbinah reveals that Ghanaian players go through difficulties while playing in their country and that prevents them from reaching or achieving their full potential.
“Playing football in Ghana is difficult because of the facilities there and anyone will agree with me that once we get these infrastructural challenges out of the way, our players will be better in terms of their output,” Cobbinah said.
“I am not saying this to spite anyone, but due to the hardship players face in the local league, they will always play well when they join the exodus bandwagon."
Cobbinah says even though he is playing in the Saudi second tier the facilities there are excellent and admitted the difficult conditions in Ghana might have helped him to excel when he moved to Al-Riyadh.
"Here, we have a lot of good training facilities, and I believe it’s the same with other clubs across the world,” he said.
“When you play on hard and robust pitches and get used to that, you will definitely excel if you happen to get a better pitch.”
