Ex Ghana striker Ibrahim Tanko has lauded the efforts being made by the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana to improve the welfare of home-based players.

The PFAG held a seminar to educate home-based players about the opportunity available to them as members of the association.

The PFAG is also operating an insurance policy for all its members to cater for their future especially in retirement.

The union which is made up of both current and retired players have been crusading for better conditions of services for local based players.

They’ve been encouraging local clubs to set basic standards in their engagements with players.

Ibrahim Tanko has lauded the efforts being made by the PFAG, saying it offers a huge platform for players to take full advantage of.

“I was particularly impressed by the solidarity being shown by the former players to the current local ones through the PFAG,” the Cameroon assistant coach told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“The PFAG is providing avenues for modern day players that I am even envious of because we never had these kind of things in our time.

“To have people like Sammy Kuffour, Tony Baffoe, Stephen Appiah, Solomon Torson and many others behind you as a local player is no joke.

“They’ve devised many ways towards improving the welfare of players and it is something that needs to be applauded.”

The PFAG have through its office in Accra managed to help several home-based players out of slave contracts with clubs.

They have also made interventions in critical times for players who struggled for their obligated entitlements with clubs.

The PFAG have now offered support by organizing competent personnel like lawyers, accredited FIFA intermediaries for their members especially when negotiating and signing contracts with clubs.
