Ex-Eagles international Utaka Scores, Balogun In Action In Pre-Season Clash
Former Super Eagles striker Peter Utaka was on target for his Japanese top flight club, FC Tokyo, but it was not enough as they were hammered 5-2 by Bundesliga club Mainz 05 in Wednesday's pre-season game in Grassau, Germany.
Current Super Eagles defender, Leon Balogun, was on from the start for Mainz.
After a goalless first half, Mainz went 1-0 up through Gerrit Holtman in the 51st minute.
Just two minutes later, FC Tokyo equalised thanks to a goal by Kensuke Nagai.
Danny Latza restored Mainz's lead in the 60th minute, making it 2-1 before Daniel Brosinski added a third on 68 minute from the penalty spot.
In the 72nd minute, Kenan Kodro scored to put Mainz 4-1 ahead but Utaka converted an 83rd minute penalty to bring the score to 4-2.
Kodro grabbed his second goal in the 88th minute to give Mainz a 5-2 win.
The win was Mainz's third after four pre-season games played so far (they lost 2-0 to German third division club Wehen Wiesbaden last Saturday).
Mainz next pre-season game comes up on Thursday against Bundesliga 2 club Greuther Furth.
