Ex-Ghana star Samuel Osei Kuffour has been handed the mandate to run the affairs of struggling giants Kumasi Asante Kotoko after meeting the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Saturday at the Manhyia Palace, insiders have told GHANAsoccernet.com.

The Bayern Munich legend was the frontrunner to take over the role of steering the affairs of the club and met the owner of the club to discuss a road map for the revival of the club.

He takes over from Opoku Nti, who was the CEO and recently won a seat on the Executive Committee of the GFA but he may yet have a role in the club.

Manhyia sources told GHANAsoccernet.com in Kumasi that details of the meeting were still under wraps but it is believed Kuffuor's desire to inject professionalism with the help of his foreign partners looks to have worked in his favour.

The former Bayern Munich defender has been fingered as one of the key members of a ‘rebel’ group led by Dr Kweku Frimpong of Champion Divine Clinic fame to take over the club.

Already, Dr Frimpong has employed the services of a Danish scout, Thomas Moller Nielson, as the club’s new Technical Director.

The Technical Director left Kumasi days after Kotoko lost the Otumfuo Annual Challenge Cup to regional rivals, AshantiGold, in Kumasi recently.

Kuffour takes over from Samuel Opoku Nti as the new CEO, Dr Frimpong as the chairman of the Board and former Real Tamale United coach, Mohammed Gargo, as an assistant coach.

But while the lobbying at Manhyia intensified, the CEO, Opoku Nti, and his team worked hard to revamp the club ahead of the 2015/2016 league season.

The club is reported to have pencilled down at least six new players to beef up the current squad of 18 players after seven were put on transfer or released on loan.
