Jose Mourinho insists Manchester United were unlucky not to win and felt they dominated the game in their 1-0 defeat to Basel. Basel were by far the better side in the second half and their work was rewarded with a goal in the 89th minute.

Manchester United legend Eric Cantona says he "loves" Jose Mourinho but would like his team to be more adventurous.

United are second in the Premier League and, despite this week's surprise defeat at Basel, top of their group in the Champions League.

Mourinho, however, has faced some criticism for his approach to games against top-six rivals, and particularly during the goalless draw with Liverpool at Anfield in October.

Cantona said attacking football was part of United's tradition and urged boss Mourinho to remove the handbrake.

"United always played in a good way and enjoy the game even at bad times -- it's the philosophy of the club, it's very strong, it's a creative game, the passing, the movement and everything," the 51-year-old told Full Time Devils.

"I prefer when it's more fancy and more creative, of course. It's why I loved to play for United."

Mourinho won two trophies in his first season at Old Trafford after taking over from Louis van Gaal in 2016.

This season, he is leading the club's first title challenge since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

Despite the debate over Mourinho's style, Cantona, who won four titles between 1992 and 1997, stressed: "I really love Mourinho. I love the way he played.

"It's just I prefer if it is more offensive and that's just because it's United. It's like Barcelona -- if they played in a defensive way nobody would understand.

"But I do love Mourinho and he can win things and he will win things, which is very important."
