Equatorial Guinea revive CAN 2027 campaign with Sierra Leone victory

Equatorial Guinea revived their CAN 2027 qualifying campaign by beating Sierra Leone 1-0 in Yaounde on Monday.

The Nzalang Nacional had little margin for error in the second round of matches, but they made the perfect start when Loren Zuniga Owono scored in the first minute.

His early strike proved decisive, with neither side able to add to the score during the remainder of the game.

Sierra Leone looked to respond after falling behind, but Equatorial Guinea dealt effectively with their attacking efforts. The Nzalang Nacional organised themselves defensively and protected their advantage through to half-time.

The pressure from Sierra Leone increased after the restart as they attempted to find an equaliser. However, Equatorial Guinea’s defence remained well structured and resisted the sustained pressure.

Despite Sierra Leone’s efforts, Equatorial Guinea managed the match successfully and held on to secure all three points at the final whistle.

The result gives Equatorial Guinea renewed momentum in the CAN 2027 qualifiers ahead of their double confrontation with the Leopards of the DRC.

Sierra Leone will next face Zimbabwe, who were defeated by the DRC.
