Enrique leaves Spain job
The Spanish Football Federation have confirmed that national team boss Luis Enrique is to leave the job for personal reasons after less than a year in charge.
The former Barcelona boss took the job, signing a two-year contract in July last year after Spain had a disappointing World Cup 2018, losing in the last 16 of the competition.
Let's try to carry on the the work that Luis started.
Robert Moreno
Enrique took charge of the side's Nations League campaign, failing to reach the semi-finals of the new tournament and had begun their Euro 2020 qualifying but assistant Robert Moreno stepped in and guided the team to three wins.
Moreno will now take full charge of the national team, a move confirmed by Luis Rubiales, president of the Spanish Football Federation.
He said: "It was a decision Luis Enrique took himself, which we are grateful for.
"We will have a perfect memory of him. It's a personal matter which doesn't depend on us. We think it's the best thing to do.
"We are convinced that the best response is the most prepared team, and that team is represented by Robert [Moreno] and his group, who arrived with Luis Enrique."
Moreno said at a press conference: "I didn't expect to be the head coach this way. Let's try to carry on the the work that Luis started."
Having been a player with both Real Madrid and Barcelona, Enrique became Barca manager in 2014, guiding the club to successive La Liga titles as well as winning the Copa del Rey three years in a row.
He also led Barcelona to the Champions League title in 2015 when they beat Juventus in the final.
Spain are top of Group F in Euro 2020 qualifying, having won all four of their games so far. They are next in action in a double-header in September, facing an away game against Romania followed by a home tie with the Faroe Islands.
Barcelona are 4/6 to win the La Liga title next year with Real Madrid 11/8.
Spain, under Moreno, are 7/1 to win Euro 2020 with England 9/2.
